about: Gregory Guy Gorden
Gregory Guy Gorden is zany, witty, wise-cracking, shameless, and a rubber-faced ham. But most of all, he is determined to make you laugh.
The Texas native didn’t start out as an actor, but a high school science teacher in Houston. It was when he started looking for an artistic challenge that he discovered his passion for performing. He began making a name for himself on the local stages with his knack for story-telling and talent to touch audiences emotionally. In The Big Bang at Theater LaB Houston, Gorden showed-off his vocal pipes and impeccable timing in this hilarious two-man show. A softer, sweeter side emerged in the intimate, dramatic story The Baltimore Waltz at The Actors Theatre of Houston. And, as Willard in Footloose at the Kansas City Starlight, he proved his ability to steal the show and get 7,000 people laughing nightly. Gorden also popped up on television when he landed a series of national commercials with retired NFL star Warren Sapp.
Looking to expand his career, Gorden headed to New York City. He quickly found his feet in the big apple participating in the New York Musical Theatre Festival and earning funnyman status among the improv comedy scene when he started training and performing at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB). Always looking to push himself creatively, Gorden turned his sights on breaking into the television and film world. He began studying with renowned casting directors Katja Blichfeld (30 Rock) and Geoffrey Soffer (Ugly Betty), soaking up their tips and advice about working on-camera. He landed the opportunity to work for several seasons as a stand-in on the hit CW show Gossip Girl, gaining invaluable time on set working closely with the cast and crew and building his confidence and knowledge of this distinct medium.
The hard work soon paid off with both film and television opportunities. Gorden starred in the critically successful short film Hunter4Love, and looking for more on-camera opportunities, Gorden made the decision to move to Los Angeles in September 2009 and hasn’t looked back. Not only has he been working hard gaining experience in independent and student films but he’s also been flying high, literally, taking trapeze lessons and continuing to study improv at UCB Los Angeles.
Up next, Gorden will appear in the award-winning Sacred Fools Theater Company’s world-premiere production of The Forbidden Zone: Live in the 6th Dimension. Opening in May, the live stage-musical is adapted from one of the greatest midnight movies of all time, offering a surreal and bawdy journey to the Sixth Dimension, featuring the music of Danny Elfman and the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.
